Rob Barrett, founder and President of Bartec Fire Safety Systems:
Bartec is a full-service fire safety company, by that I mean we service fire alarm systems, sprinkler systems, emergency lighting, fire extinguishers. Our customers range from small family owned apartment buildings to high-rise complexes, care facilities, industrial sites. Basically, any building that has fire alarm equipment in it, is our customer. All our customers get the same high-quality service with integrity and fairness. I was working in the fire safety industry back in the late seventies and I was getting disillusioned with the way the industry was going and in 1980 I decided to start up Bartec Fire Safety and with that I brought my vision of what a fire safety company should be. A company that did business differently, did business with honesty and integrity, that put customers and their employees in the forefront. I wanted a company with well trained, educated technicians that would do a very good job for our customers.
Bartec is a family run business, there is a lot of high standards, so I think that puts us above a lot of other companies that tend to just go through the paces, I try to relate the customer on a more of a human basics, if that makes sense. Just kind of putting yourself in their shoes. Having a process which you carry from job to job, an order of operations, so to speak, to actually make things go smoothly.
The core of our business is inspections, testing and maintenance and what that means to our customer is information, and how quickly we get that information to our customer and how accurately we get that information to our customer is paramount to their safety. So, over the years we decided that we needed to develop our own in-house database reporting systems specifically for the fire safety industry. That product was unique for several years and is still head and shoulders above the competition. And that provides the ability to give our customers the information that they need, when they need it, as accurately as possible.
Someone that comes to us on an emergency basis, would typically want to get that work done as soon as possible and by us having that kind of same day reporting we are able to get our reports out to them within 24 hours from actually being on site and actually doing the work, and then if there is a fire order to get that rectified, we take care of that accordingly.
It’s always been important to us to be transparent with our customers. We are there to provide a service that they need and they need to relay on a company and trust that company, and trust is all that our industry has. So, we believe that the only way to provide a price to our customer, is a complete price, so there is no additional charges for vehicle surcharges, or tag charges, or inspection fees, when we provide you with a quote the price you see is the price you pay, nothing more. I think that because our industry is ever changing and is always expanding Bartec is always looking for what is next. What technology can we take advantage of to help protect them better and to help serve them better. We do a lot of inhouse training programs, we stay up to date with all the latest codes, and every month we’ll have all our technicians come in to the office we’ll sit them down, we review what’s changed in the codes, what changed in the industry and how we can learn from that and better serve our customers.
Being able to help people with both their fire safety needs and their personal needs through the business is quite gratifying. If I’m able to help someone where someone has either taken advantage of them in the past or just has not have the service that they desired, it really, you know, it hits home with me, I get great deal of satisfaction from that.
After over forty years being in the industry I still love to come to work. I believe we have stayed in business for all these years because of our commitment to customer service. At the end of the day I know that we have made our community a little safer and maybe even saved someone’s life. There are few jobs that can give you that kind of satisfaction.
On Thursday May 16 and Friday May 17, Ron Hurrie and Christine Longbottom conducted the annual inspection at our 65 West Cordova building.
Ron and Christine were an absolute pleasure to work with. They were courteous, professional and diligent.
Some of our tenants can be rather difficult (to say the least) and I know that both Christine and Ron were ‘bothered’ by a several tenants. They dealt with these intrusions in a very professional manner – and with a great deal more patience than I had with tenants during the two days of inspection/testing!
I have worked for Lore Krill co-op since December 2008. At that time, we were experiencing several problems with the panel, and I knew squat about fire panels/messages/resetting, etc. Bartec was always just a phone call away, and I very much appreciated the patience and courtesy from your office staff and from the technicians who came on site to deal with whatever problem we were having.
On July 12/13, I am retiring, and my days of dealing with Bartec are coming to an end. For that reason, I would like to take this opportunity to extend my sincerest thanks to you all.
